Position: Director Youth/Student Ministries
Valdosta First Methodist, a downtown congregation in the historic Methodist/Wesleyan
faith tradition, seeks a passionate Christian leader to lead the church’s ministry to middle
and high school students and their families. The ideal candidate will have a passion for
working with youth, a strong understanding of the Christian faith, and the ability to create a
positive and supportive environment for young people to grow in their faith.
The Director of Youth will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing a variety of
programs and activities that meet the needs of the youth in the Valdosta community, and
for developing and maintaining relationships with parents and families. This is a full-time
position with appropriate compensation and benefits provided.
Responsibilities:
Develop and implement a comprehensive youth ministry program that meets the
needs of the youth in our community, and aligns with our congregation’s vision to be
intentional in discipleship, witness, and service
Plan and lead weekly youth activities
Plan and lead special youth events (e.g. retreats, mission trips, ski trips, etc)
Serve as a mentor and role model for youth
Recruit, train, and deploy volunteers for youth ministry
Build relationships with youth and their families, and within the community
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
Professional and/or volunteer youth ministry experience preferred
Strong understanding of Christian faith
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to relate to youth of all ages, and to a multi-generational congregation
